Meanwhile, Ilse completed her education and decided to immigrate to Canada. In Montreal, Ilse worked as a nanny, maid, and later a cook while she learned English. On a break, she met Henry Gallant (born Heinz Goldstein, 1928-2019), a German Holocaust survivor. After obtaining a visa for the United States, Ilse joined Henry in Miami Beach, Florida, where they both worked in hotels. When tensions mounted in the marriage, Ilse took a job at a hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, but the couple soon reunited.\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eIlse and Henry had one son, whom they raised in Jewish tradition. The Gallant family moved to Atlanta for Henry’s new job at the Fairmont Hotel. Ilse became a restaurant manager. Eventually, the couple bought and operated a successful kosher catering company.
