She was a founding member of the Committee for Sandy Springs, formed in 1975 to promote the incorporation of Sandy Springs, Georgia,  as a city. Galambos was an economist, community activist, and politician who served for eight years (2005-2013) as the first mayor of the newly incorporated city of Sandy Springs, Georgia. She married Dr. John Galambos, a Hungarian Holocaust survivor, in 1949 and they had three children; Tobae, John, and Michael.
