Her grandfather came to the United States from Kolonia, which is now part of Belarus. He operated a shoe store called the Union Shoe Company but passed away seven or eight years after he immigrated. Bunny’s grandmother was already in the United States in the early 1900’s. \u003c/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eBunny’s father Meyer was always associated with the food business. Before she was born, he owned a bottling company called True Fruit Bottling Company. After that, he opened a wholesale food business called Sherman Food Distributors. Bunny’s parents met at the city market in downtown Savannah, since they were both working in the food business. \u003c/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eAs a young child, Bunny and her family lived in a fourplex apartment on East Henry Street in Savannah, Georgia. When Bunny was five years old, the family moved to the Ardsley Park area, where she attended Charles Ellis Elementary School. Bunny was verry active as a child and was engaged in dance, dramatics, swimming lessons, Girl Scout Brownies, and other activities at the Jewish Educational Alliance (JEA) in Savannah.\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eWhen she was nine, Bunny started to go to Hebrew school at the Conservative synagogue, Congregation Agudath Achim. Her father was very active at the synagogue, and she enjoyed attending services with him. The family did not keep kosher, but Bunny’s mother’s family from Atlanta were very observant and did so. Bunny and her friends would take the bus to Hebrew school together, and afterwards they would walk downtown. This group of girls consisted of Bunny, Davida Tenenbaum, Bailee Tenenbaum, Sandra Lasky, Gail Lester, Riette Hirsch, and sometimes Nancy Robinson. The girls would frequent the dinette at Levy’s Department Store. \u003c/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eBunny became a bat mitzvah at Congregation Agudath Achim. It was only the second year that the synagogue had bat mitzvahs.
