She grew up in nearby Baxley, Georgia. Adele had two siblings, Marvin Finkelstein and Marsha Finkelstein Haysman. Adele’s mother was born in Atlanta, Georgia. Her father was born in Kobryn, Poland. Adele’s parents owned a shoe repair shop when they first moved to Baxley in 1934. They later owned Finkelstein’s Department Store in Baxley. Adele’s father had an aunt and uncle, named Seligman, who owned a dry goods store in nearby Claxton, Georgia, where Adele’s father and mother worked and learned the trade before opening their shoe repair shop in Baxley. Adele’s family attended High Holy Day services at a synagogue in Savannah, Georgia, and kept kosher during Passover.  \u003cbr\u003eAdele attended Appling County High School. After 11 years of high school, she attended University of Georgia in Athens and Emory University in Atlanta. Adele married Nathan Effel in 1956. They opened a clothing store in Decatur Square in Decatur, Georgia, in 1957. They moved back to Baxley two and a half years later to work in the family business after her parents retired. Adele’s two siblings also worked in the business.  \u003cbr\u003eAdele and Nathan raised their two children in Baxley, Felicia and Eddie Effel. They attended a synagogue in Waycross, Georgia, where their children received a Jewish education. After so long a time, the building he was in . . . and there was a building in between. There were two buildings, like a larger store, down the road there on the same side of the street. He closed up the little place and opened up in the larger place.
